Abstract:
The article contains a system of basic and derived notions of the concept as the central unit of the language's mental lexicon. Concepts are viewed as mental formations with stochastic structure and an ontology of their own. Their integrity and separateness are maintained by their denotative reference. Within the concept's holistic structure various functional substructures are formed such as concepts of the class, of the norm and the prototype of the class and others.
