Abstract:
The role of metaphor in nomination is regarded to be a specific cognitive mechanism due to which abstract notions are comprehended in more concrete meanings. A scientific metaphor in communicative activity affords the speaker an opportunity to form and name his discovery and the listener is able to understand the novelty and simultaneously to build new strategies of interpretation of the investigation phenomena. Several semantic groups of metaphor terms used in dentistry and cranio-maxillofacial surgery are represented and analyzed.
