Abstract:
The article dwells on the arguments central to domineering standpoints in theory of interpreta-tion. Different theoretical approaches to such problems as textual meaning, the author's intention, the reader's activities, the subjectivity and limits of interpretation etc. are framed as dependent on the culture of particular time. Eco's view of how «the intention of the work» sets limits to possible interpretations is connected with the problem of textual clues assisting in the construction of the author's message, thus language being treated as an essential element of literary experience. The communicative value of a fictional text is considered of greatest importance for the development of theory of inter-pretation.
