Abstract:
In cognitive linguistics grammaticalization is considered as an effect of general cognitive processes, such as generalization and typification. The present paper tackles particular cases of gram-maticalization as it is reflected by certain categorematic words of modern Russian that develop prono-minal functions due to their communicative character and their role in discourse arrangement. The semantics of a linguistic unit to a large extent determines its involvement into the grammaticalization process. So, in the main focus of the research are the semantic changes that can be observed in the ana-lyzed words.
