THE SEMANTICS OF KOREAN CASE PARTICLES: SOME PROBLEMS OF METHODOLOGY

Author:  Mun Khe Suk

Abstract
In this article we propose an original method to investigate the semantics of Korean cases – ana-logs of European prepositional case markers of syntactic relations. This method consists in examining the relations of the cases with the noun group which it marks and with the verb whose actant is this group, or even with the longer chain of contextual elements. Thus we analyse the dative which marks the actants with different lexemes and demonstrate that we choose this case because in the context there is the connection with the semantics of 'occasional cause-consequence' between dative and subject actants present. We also explain that the nominative case can mark the same actant when the statements about the subject of the situation and its second participant show the different aspects of one and the same integral situation.
