Abstract:
The paper discusses discourse strategies and discourse style as socio-culturally determined cogni-tive and communicative phenomena. It is argued that culture-specific differences in the cognitive sche-mata of the speech events determine the difference in the choice of the interactive strategies and in the repertoires of conventional linguistic means employed for performing these speech events in various languages.
