Abstract:
The article explores cognitive mechanisms of term derivation and their basic characteristics. The productive means of term derivation from proper names acts as special derivative mechanism, which represents a synthesis of conceptual and personal nominational aspects. The terms formed in this man-ner bear a considerable amount of historical sociocultural and ethnocultural information, have a wide range of specific nation-culture connotations and possess a derivational potential – thus fulfilling prin-ciples of continuity and development in the processes of categorization and verbalization of the world.
