Abstract
The paper is devoted to the development of connotative (figurative) meaning of nouns based on psychophysiological associations arising due to interrelation of sense, perception, cognition and lan-guage phenomena. The development of denotative meaning into motivated connotative one is mainly performed by the mechanisms of metaphor and metonymy as a result of seme actualization, loss or rearrangement. The prototypical situation is regarded as the base for connotative meaning development. Researches in the field of semantics provide the approach to the study of cognition phenomenon capable of searching for adequate ways of language expression of related figurative associations.
