Abstract: 
In the article context is investigated as a means of cognition and a condition of communication. We emphasize its connecting power in communication, its importance in the development of creativity, of an ability to understand and produce sense. Context is researched as a basic factor in the work with the source text and the target text, as a constituent part of the communicative competence,
of a skill to make a dialogue, to create discourse.
