Abstract:
The article offers the author's conception of connotation as a complex multifunctional psychic phenomenon stipulating a particular creative psycholinguistic mechanism functioning in individual consciousness. The hypothesis of connection between the phenomenon of connotation and the phenomena of polysemy, homonymy, synonymy, antonymy, paronymy and euphemy and the importance of connotation for human consciousness and its basic characteristics including creativeness are argued. The author underlines the interconnection between the mechanism of connotativity and that of conceptuali-zation, both being integrally connected with individual sensory experience.
