The analysis of various conceptions of the discourse theory as much as as the specification on the content borders of the notion "discourse" relevant for the modern stage of development of linguistics constitute the quintessence of the article presented, the research following the principles of the "language – language activity – speech" coordination proposed by L.V. Scherba.
