FUNCTIONAL SPECTRUM OF TERMINOLOGICAL UNITS

Abstract
The matter of issue of the given article is the specific character of a term's functional load, which is directly connected with the sphere of its functioning. Apart from four basic terminological functions, that are: nominative, significative, communicative (informative) and pragmatic, in the article there are elucidated some additional terminological functions, particularly: the function of detecting the new knowledge as well as the cognitive and the classifying functions of a term. The question of variance of terminological units is touched upon. The material of the article is sustained by a great number of illustrative
examples permitting a detailed analysis of the whole range of terminological functional facilities.
