Abstract:
Relative adjectives are characterized both by the presence of substantive features in their seman-tics and by the functional predicativity. This categorical integrity is reflected in the processes of their semantic derivation. Metaphors and metonymies are built on the substantive patterns, at the same time giving the chance of realization to the latent semes of the basic word due to the predicative character of the derivative. In the course of further lexicalization predicative patterns of semantic processes take place.
