SEMIOLOGIC CONCEPTION OF ERIC BUYSSENS

Abstract:
The paper is devoted to the semiologic conception of the Belgian linguist Eric Buyssens (1900-2000) which is not known enough in Russia. The author analyses major components of his conception: object and notions of semiology, sign, its structure, symbol, reference of proper name, problems of relations between language and thought under semiotic aspect. The semiotic conception of E. Buyssens is examined against the background and in comparison with other conceptions of the same time as well as from the point of view of modern linguistics. The contribution of the Belgian scholar to the theory and practice of semiotics is assessed.
