SEMANTIC VS. CONCEPTUAL DERIVATION IN SUBSTANDARD LANGUAGE SUBSYSTEM

Abstract
Traditionally semantic derivation is viewed as one of the word-formation processes when the derivative undergoes semantic changes with its structure unchanged. However this paper presents semantic derivation in the linguocognitive aspect – as the process and the result of the mental cognition actualized in the language in its dynamic development.
We claim that in substandard system of the language semantic derivation is marked by emotive and expressive connotations and pejorative evaluation based upon the corresponding conceptual markers which reflect the specificity of individual and social cognition. The semantic processes in this system are means of conceptualization of the reality in conceptual derivation as a result of a new interpretation of the primary verbalization. Accordingly conceptual derivation predetermines the semantic derivation through the process of verbalization.
Semantic vs. conceptual derivation in substandard lexical system comprises both general (prototypical) features of the system and the features of syncretism, the cognition in this system is mostly concrete and mundane. The preferred cognitive models of conceptual integration are "the man is an animal", "the man is an inanimate subject", "the man is a part of his body", "the man is a plant", "the man is an artifact", etc.
In the process of investigation we traced that substandard semantic derivation was marked by se-mantic convergence and semantic integration in Russian and English conceptual systems which might be considered the main mechanism of categorization and conceptualization of the environment.
