SUBJECTIVITY AND CREATIVITY IN TRANSLATION AS TEXT-INDUCED COMMUNICATION

Abstract
Fiction is characterized by the following qualities: conceptual polyphony, openness, and hyper-textual links with other texts. A WORD is considered a text attractor inducing textual meanings. Me-chanisms of text interpretation influence the final result of the translator's work. According to the hermeneutical principle the reader is sometimes better able to understand the text than the author: the knowledge about the real world serves as a means of organizing imaginary textual worlds.
Traditionally translation studies ignore cases of translators' creativity or subjectivity. The present paper considers the bilingual text-induced communication as the one including the author of the text, the translator as the 1st reader of the source language and an interpretator and at the same time a quasi-author for the real 2nd reader of the target language. The translator can view the bilingual background of the source text in a historical perspective trying to resolve the problem of finding the sufficient and adequate means of conveying the author's ideas. Translators' intermediary function is to "restore" keys left by the author due to discursive expectations and the current situational environment. Cultural and extralinguistic factors drive translators to "read between the lines". Subjectivity makes them read the text from the standpoint of cultural intervening, their own past experience and expectation of the final result.
Special importance should be assigned to different socio-psychological factors, translators' indi-viduality and emotional experience that impede or improve the process and the result of their activity.
