Abstract

The given article considers general lingua-cultural metaphorical models of the TIME concept in the English and Russian languages in diachronic aspect.
The main aim of the article is to show some general features in English and Russian world views concerning the realization of the TIME concept in its second nomination. Basic types of metaphors of time in the given ethnos are also under study, as well as pairs of temporal neologisms in the considered languages.
We have used comparative and descriptive methods to achieve the results of the research, which are as following: each period in the life of a society correlates with certain basic metaphors of time. The modern English and Russian temporal world views are in fact in themselves a joint combination of basic metaphors, as well as their modifications and representations, which occurred at different stages of the language development.
The results of the research can be of certain interest for lingua-cultural and cross-cultural studies, as well as for comparative typology of languages and cultures.
