Abstract:  The paper is devoted to the analysis of political commentary as a new genre of modern reality. The political commentary is viewed as a new discursive practice to which we attribute the following characteristics: 1) The change of the target audience. 2) The combination of the elements of mass, interpersonal and intercultural communication. 3) The extension of the genre framework due to the change of the pragmatic purpose.
The analysis of the political commentary takes into account conflict / cooperative character of the communication process. The following kinds of political commentary serve as a basis for the analysis: 1) politicians and power structures representatives’ commentaries on the urgent issues of social and political life; 2) political scientists and consultants’ commentaries; 3) common people’s commentaries.
The conclusion of the paper is that politicians and power structures representatives’ commentaries lack conflict potential. In political scientists and consultants’ commentaries the emotional component prevails over the rational one. The greatest extent of emotionality is observed in common people’s commentaries.

Keywords:  political commentary, discursive practice, perlocutive effect, conflict character, cooperativity
