Abstract:  The article deals with the cognitive grounds of actualizing the interpretative potential of lexical categories. The interpretative potential is considered as made up by the conceptual content and structure of lexical categories. It means that differential properties of the categorial elements are viewed as basic concepts for interpretative conceptualization. Realization of interpretative potential of lexical categories results in interpretative meanings, including formation of evaluative senses in speech. It becomes possible in the course of setting corresponding inter-conceptual connections between source area of interpretation and target area of interpretation in the process of conceptual derivation.
We also state that there are several formats of interpretative potential properties, such as: perceptional, functional, operational, experiential, as well as formats of observation and associations. The interpretative formats of knowledge have the status of categorizers in human cognition determining both natural and interpretative categorization. The properties belonging to the perceptional, functional, operational, experiential formats and the format of observation are characteristics of the ontological part of knowledge, whereas the associative format is a part of knowledge coming from our social experience.

Keywords:  linguistic interpretation, lexical categories, interpretative potential, conceptual derivation, inter-conceptual connections, interpretative formats of knowledge
