Abstract:  The article focusses on a heuristic potential of the text within present trends in discoursive analysis. The authors’ intention is to avoid the biased opposition ‘text versus discourse’ and to demonstrate that the discourse analysis starts as a macrosemantic text analysis opening a text into its metatextual perspective.
Text is considered as a verbal form of cognitive activity being of dynamic nature per se. The dynamic nature of texture is determined by its inner structuring, which creates long standing semantic and pragmatic interaction first among all textual elements and second between mental presuppositions of the recipient and the author.
The authors have chosen W. Saroyan’s parable “The Armenian and the Armenian” as an evidence of the text-focussed discourse analysis. The year of 2015 will mark the centennial of the Armenian people genocide. The parable “The Armenian and the Armenian” is considered a symbol of what took place in 1915 when the Armenian people of West Armenia faced mass extermination and deportation. This is one of the works by W. Saroyan where language means outline the cognitive background essential for the proper interpretation of the text in discourse.
