Abstract:  The subject of this paper is the analysis of the semantic processes in the term “money” in synchronic and diachronic aspects, while the object of it is the determination of the trends of the development of the unit. The language is described as a cognitive structure that explains the processes of assimilation, processing and transmission of knowledge.
The author understands the meaning of a word (and a term`s likewise) as a network of interrelated relationships of elements in the language, which are connected with the process of learning the world, with the mental activity of a man and his cognitive abilities.
The author of the article sees the changes of the meaning of the unit as a consequence of changes in the object itself, in the course of the development of the object’s special features, in the result of which the new meanings emerge. The correlation of the core and the periphery in the semantic structure of the word meaning (also the term’s one) undergoes redistribution. It is assumed the reasons of the changes of the unit are extralinguistic and cognitive.
