FROM THE WRITER’S LANGUAGE DICTIONARY TO THE COGNITION OF THE WRITERS’S WORLD: ON SOME BASIC CONCEPTS IN DOSTOYEVSKY’S CREATIVE WORKS

Abstract:  The article describes some basic ideas of the «Dictionary of Dostoevsky’s language» concept which, since its creation, has undergone some changes mainly related to the theoretical basis of particu-lar parameters of the Dictionary. The author shows the procedure of finding out idioglossas, the key-words for Dostoevsky’s style, in the writer’s texts and also idioglossas’ relationship to the conceptual sphere of Dostoevsky. The author works out the methodology of the writer’s thesaurus constructing based on the idioglossas functioning in Dostoevsky’s aphorisms studied, in autonumus statements and in the contexts where the idioglossa’s symbolic value appears which refers to the ability of concrete names to get abstract meanings. In the result the suggestion is made that the centre of Dostoevsky’s thesaurus consists of five interrelated concepts – LIFE, DEATH, LOVE, FEAR, ILLNESS (SUFFERING) and LAUGH, that interact with each other in semantic and associative relations, and the thesaurus core is represented by the concept HUMAN BEING. The identified conceptual fields combine the most of idioglossas included in the «Dictionary of Dostoevsky’s language». The observations made in the article intend to show that the dictionary of the writer’s language is able to perform not only the reference functions, but also be an effective tool for understanding the author's style peculiarities and the author's linguistic identity.
