Abstract:  The concept of “other language” as representation of intercultural exchange is based on the reconstruction of patterns used by native speakers in the process of conceptualization of the image of a foreign language which he does not know. The study was based both on metalinguistic statements of contemporary Russian poets about the Spanish language and their texts in relation with the construct of the Spanish language in the Russian classical poetry and the poetry of XX century. Thus the poets act as advanced speakers of the modern Russian language and representatives of the Russian culture, but at the same time the specificity in modelling the image of a foreign language is determined mostly by poets. Metadiscourse of contemporary poets about other languages, which includes the basic character-istics of the other language and the modelling of its sound imagery, represents a conceptualisation of customary experience in cultural transfer. In forming the image of a foreign language, poets are not inclined or do not tend to recollect or simulate the actually sounding speech. Poets adhere to representing and forming the image of other language in terms of a pseudotext, which places the spoken word within the preconceived cognitive framework of a familiar literary tradition. Conceptualisation of the image of other language corresponds not only to linguistic environment, but also to discourse practices habitual for a respondent.

Keywords:  other language, image of language, poetry, conceptualisation, precedent text, pseudotext
