Abstract:  The subject matter of this article are intertextual inclusions, characteristic of postmodern literature. Theme: cognitive strategies of belles-lettres discourse.
The article describes a model of cognitive processing the artistic discourse, as well as the possibility of its application to the interpretation of postmodern texts in which intertextuality is a mandatory part of the author – recipient’s cultural dialogue. The purpose of the work is to investigate intertextuality in the context of cognitive-discursive approach that presupposes flexible cognitive strategies for interpretation. Basic techniques: cognitive discourse analysis, intertextual analysis.
Results: the analysis proved that the interpretation of intertextual components is impossible without knowledge of complex interactions between the recipient’s knowledge and the information coming from the different levels of the text. Analysis of novels by Elfriede Jelinek proved that her style presupposes a severe language game that destroys habitual speech clichés, leading to the destruction of public stereotyped thinking. Application area: hermeneutics, cognitive linguistics, text linguistics, discourse studies.
Conclusion: Successful interpretation of intertextuality of belles-lettres discourse leads to understanding the author's intention by a recipient. Recognition of intertextuality and its interpretation in the space of a literary text, often unconscious, on the level of memory, knowledge and experience, constitute the trinity: author – text – reader. The latter either gives life to a literary work, or drives it into oblivion.

Keywords:  belles-lettres discourse, cognitive processing of discourse, cognitive structure and strategy, post-modernism, interpretation and decoding, intertextual inclusion, semiosis
