Abstract:  The subject matter of the research has become the semantic volume of reminiscences from the Celtic archaic epic in V. Nabokov’s novel “Lolita” in terms of their content and identifying features. The purpose of the study was to identify the substantive scope, meaning and artistic features of reminiscences from the Celtic sagas in V. Nabokov’s novel.
The author has conducted decoding the meaning of reminiscences from the Celtic sagas in the novel on the basis of the principles of diachronic description and text analysis developed by the scientists of the Moscow semiotic circle (V.V. Ivanov, V.N. Toporov, E.M. Meletinskii et al) and their followers.
The author identifies the reminiscences from the Celtic sagas in the novel and defines their artistic and semantic functions as means of delineating both the characters exposing their natural worlds (Humbert, belonging to the world opposed to Lolita’s, is a solar hero representing the eternal return of the solar myth) and the main conflict of the novel. The clash of the linear time and the cyclical chronotop determines the conflict of the novel, which acquires the status of tragically insoluble.
The research materials may be adapted to the higher rate of philological analysis of the text, and find use in studies of comparative linguistics.

Keywords:  archaic myth, Celtic saga, solar hero, reminiscences, novel
