TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE DEFINED FROM INTERRELATION OF THE CATEGORIES EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE (in the English language)

Abstract:  The article analyzes the linguistic category KNOWLEDGE interrelated with the category EXPERIENCE in natural English. The change of views in contemporary epistemological theories on the triad EXPERIENCE-LANGUAGE-KNOWLEDGE and the related problems gave rise to this research. Its aim is to explicate from the conceptual domain KNOWLEDGE the types of knowledge that are relevant to the formation of experience.
The author proves the interrelation of the categories through the analysis of dictionary and contextual meanings of the words experience, knowledge and know. KNOWLEDGE being a part of EXPERIENCE is characterized by its significance. The significance of knowledge relevant to experience is revealed through the source, content and value of knowledge.
Knowledge has varying degrees of significance. The most significant types of knowledge in terms of source, content and value are knowledge as a fact, phenomenological knowledge and knowledge as an ability to do something. Less significant types of knowledge are knowledge as an understanding and knowledge as an opinion. And the least significant types are knowledge as information and theoretical knowledge.
The results of the research can be applied in cognitive linguistics, epistemology and cognitive psychology.
