METAPHOR IN SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE

Abstract:  The article touches upon the peculiarities of metaphor within the scientific discourse. The aim of the paper is to investigate the researcher’s metaphor on a linguistic ground as a marker of his/her scientific reflection revealed in a dynamic state satisfying the principles of interaction within the scientific discourse. Metaphors in scientific linguistic texts are used as a research material involving the method of linguistic analysis. The deep insight of the researcher appears to be the cognition of an issue through a complex transference to different spheres of reality and metalanguage of other scientific fields. The author claims intuition-based language activity to be an important factor within mental and language framing. The eclecticity of mental and language framing is also proved through eliciting unconscious attitudes of the producer of metaphor within the scientific discourse. The scientific conclusions may be applied to the linguistic theory, cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistic research and further research in semantic theory. Some issues may be also used in the development of stylistics theoretical course.
