Abstract:  The article presents the results of quantitative analysis and modeling of the structure of "linguistics" subject domain. The research was carried out on the material of the corpus of keywords which were mentioned by the authors of the projects supported by Russian Foundation of Humanities.
The research employed two approaches to modeling the subject domain. The first approach is the approach “from the text corpus”. This way of scientific research allowed to represent the concepts sphere of the subject domain as a holistic entity which is a network of term fields visualized by means of a semantic graph. In this case the authors applied the basic method of semantic graph modeling realized in the “Semograph” Information System. Semantic graphs of term fields determine the range of problems relevant for a particular time period, and, thus, outline external limits of linguistics. In this way the authors demonstrated flexible and dynamic character of these limits.
The second approach “from a single text” enables to single out compositions of term fields regularly realized in sets of keywords of scientific projects; for this purpose cluster analysis was applied. Regular compositions of term fields regarded as specific branches of linguistics can be considered its internal limits. The developed models show the tendency to balance weights of term fields both in the subject domain as a holistic entity and in specific branches of linguistics during the analyzed period. This leads to the increase of competition among scientific areas and, at the same time, to the recognition of importance of every branch within the subject domain. Quantitative modeling of scientific subject domains enables to represent them as dynamically changing, restructuring in the time, national, territorial, etc. context.
The suggested analysis of the subject domain structure can be required by a scientific community and used in the science management sphere.
