THE IDEA OF THE TEXT AS THE UNDERMINING

THE IDEA OF THE TEXT AS THE UNDERMINING

Author:  E.A. Skavron

Abstract:  There are two concepts: the hidden meaning and the idea of the text. The concept of hidden meaning is usually applied to parts of the text and never in relation to the text as a whole. The idea of the text is the general conclusion of the text that contains the author’s intention which is generally never presented directly. As a result, for the reader it is difficult to see the idea of the text, so the reader focuses on the plot instead of looking for the idea of the text.
The aim of this study is to examine the relation between the concept of the hidden meaning and the concept of the idea of the text. The study is based on the data obtained from an experiment conducted among volunteers by means of a questionnaire. The author used “Optical illusion” by Daniel Kharms as a text sample.
The practical value of this study is seen in presenting and explaining the concepts of the idea and hidden meaning to the reader, to advance the deeper understanding of the text.
