CULTURAL SEMANTICS OF LANGUAGE UNITS IN CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION

Abstract:  The article describes the cultural semantics of language units as the elements of the national worldview in different linguistic cultures, where knowledge and experience of certain nation are most evident. The differences caused by the history of people, their life philosophy and mentality are traced on the example of a comparative description of the color symbolism in the Kazakh and Russian linguistic cultures.

The article provides the interpretation of the cultural symbols as traditional language formulas and expressions, which allowed the authors to relate the cultural semantics of color terms with the social and historical facts, and to establish the image-associative links of color concepts, caused by subjective psychological and emotional factors. Special attention is drawn to the difference between ethnic and cultural stereotypes in the Russian-language media in Kazakhstan on the material of kazakhisms as markers of intercultural interaction.

Basing their observations on examples of the Russian-language Kazakhstani newspapers in recent years, the authors confirm that the journalistic discourse accumulates cultural signs as social dominances, which have an impacting function and reflect the new language reality with the political dominance of the Kazakh language.
