LINGUISTIC SYNCRETISM: CATEGORICAL APPROACH TO THE ISSUE

Abstract:  The paper offers a categorical description of the phenomenon of linguistic syncretism by the example of tense forms in German. Applying the famous gnosiological method to describing language facts allows to include linguistic syncretism in the general theory of oneness of the world and to characterize it as an inherent phenomenon of linguistic and mind activity of a human being. Taking into account the connection between being and consciousness the author understands the term «linguistic syncretism» in two ways: as syncretism of language forms and as a linguistic understanding of the phenomenon of syncretism. Interpretation of linguistic syncretism as of a dual linguistic category leads to characterizing linguistic syncretism as embodiment and reflection of oneness of the world. The paper presents the fundamentals, methods and main research results of categorical analysis of linguistic syncretism.

The philosophical and psychological data on the laws of being and consciousness make it possible to perform a categorical linguistic research of syncretism presenting a whole view of ontological and logical syncretism, as well as a mechanism of the linguistic syncretism. The paper also reveals the inner logic of establishing and development of syncretism. The research contributes to developing the syncretism theory and explanation of the essence and mechanism of oneness of the world.
