PECULIARITIES OF PLACE NAMES AND MINER PLACES FORMATION IN COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS

Abstract:  The object of research is regional place names systems as complex lexical systems consisting of
a number of subsystems. The theme of the article is analyzing peculiarities of place names and miner places formation from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. The main aim of the article is to prove the existence of universal cognitive mechanisms in place names formation in Russian and English and to explain the unique processes of place naming in the compared languages.

The comparative language and cultural analysis has revealed external and internal linguistic parameters participating in place names formation and changes. The author studies the reasons of place names form transformation, renaming and changes, and proves the influence of social and cultural factors on these processes.

Conclusion: universal characteristics in various place names systems are conditioned by the common mechanisms of place names formation while unique types of place names and especially Russian miner places formation appear as a result of language fashion, English influence and borrowing.
