Abstract:  The article is devoted to the study of the gender-marked English proverbs and sayings (paremiological fund) by applying lingvocultural approaches and cognitive linguistics methods. The choice of these approaches and methods enable to clarify gender semantics of proverbs, suggest a model representation of English proverbs and sayings, and explore gender lingvocultural indicators in the paremiology.
The authors use full extracts of gender-marked proverbs and sayings from dictionaries by Rus-sian and English authors and the Internet resources. The cognitive research of proverbs was carried out through: grouping and interpreting of proverbs and sayings with a particular feature and rubrics in dictionaries of proverbs and sayings; the research of maxims embodied in proverbs and sayings, cul-tural and ethical terms; studying axiological strategies of proverbs and sayings.
The result of the exploration of gender lingvocultural indicators is a model representation of English proverbs and sayings. The authors suppose that the proverb modeling proposed in the current paper can be applied to proverbs and idioms with non-gender semantics.
