Abstract:  Current research relevance is explained by the impetuous mass media language development. The sphere of modern literary language use is becoming the most “influential” one. It is in the language of the media that literary norms are established and new ones are created.
With a high degree of probability we can state that today the norms of the media language form the speech usage of modern society and it is mass media that influences the changes occurring in the literary language as a whole. Sacred attitude towards the established norms does not allow researchers to draw radical conclusions on the dynamics of norms in modern communication. Technological peculiarities in which media communication is taking place, influence the extension of traditional literary norms.
The authors emphasize the cognitive aspect of the norm in media communication, making the conclusions about: mass media norm existence in the system of the Russian literary language; the influence of mass media norm on changes in language preferences in the consciousness of mass addressee.
