Abstract:  The authors describe the role of the structure of lexical categories as general schemas of language interpretation in forming the interpretative meanings actualized in their discourse use. The aim of this article is to show how the formed knowledge of the world presented in the form of cognitive contexts gets the objectification in the lexical categories and is used by a person for their individual interpretative meaning formation.
The lexical category of mammals has a great interpretative potential as the result of close connection and interaction between a human and different species in the real world. The authors have shown that certain conceptual characteristics belonging to several groups of mammals are more dominant than others. These characteristics are relevant for the primary categorization, they form the subcategorial structure of the lexical category and determine its conceptual base. At the same time, they provide a secondary interpretation of the objects and phenomena of other conceptual domains.
The cognitive dominant characteristics of the mammals are analyzed with the help of several methods including conceptual and contextual analyses, the method of analyzing word definitions and the method of interpretative potential modeling.
The analyzed dominant characteristics of the mammals as activated by a speaker in the course of the secondary interpretation show that schematized structures of the knowledge relevant for the primary interpretation give the opportunity for a new experience formation and actualization of an evaluative vision of the world which proves the subject principle of lexical categories’ organization and functioning.
