Abstract:
The article introduces a theoretical (cognitive and pragmatic) approach to the study of gender and language which enables the relationship between meaning construction and gender to be investi-gated. Drawing on examples from various discourses, we explain how by focusing the relationship be-tween the language use, the language user and the context of use this approach enhances the concept of gender as a dynamic, situational and context-dependent cultural construct reflected in language and (re)produced in communicative interaction.
