Abstract:
The article deals with the problems of the study of cultural knowledge in the language from a cognitive point of view. The peculiarity of conceptualization of spatial objects and relations by speakers of different languages is reflected in the content of spatial concepts, expressed by lexical items, and often has cultural roots. Synchronic and diachronic study of the meaning of spatial words helps to define and compare the evolution of culturally rooted knowledge in different languages.
