RECURRENT SEMIOSIS IN THE DISCOURSE OF DRAMA AS A MARKER OF COGNITIVE-PRAGMATIC MODIFICATIONS

Abstract:  The paper examines the cognitive and communicative potential of recurrent semiosis in the discourse of drama.
The author assumes that different types of repetition in plays mark changes in the pragmatic parameters of the communicative situation: spatial and temporal parameters, modes of discourse, standpoint (objective, subjective; emotionally coloured or neutral), participants and their qualities (attitudes to one another, mood, personal involvement with the topic, etc.).
The analysis of 10 plays written by Russian and British playwrights (H. Pinter, S. Beckett, T. Stoppard, A. Volodin, А. Vаmpilov, A. Kazantsev, N. Sadur, N. Kolyadа) leads to highlighting a set of markers and indicators matching up to the cognitive techniques that bring pragmatically significant information into focus.
So, the paper elaborates the idea of meaning-making in the context-conditioned recurrent semiosis normally accompanied by various pragmatic modifications which have their linguistic, paralinguistic and metatextual indicators.
