TEACHINGS OF A.A. SHAKHMATOV AND V.V. VINOGRADOV ON PARTS OF SPEECH: COMPARATIVICITY

Abstract:  The article presents an analytical material on the parts of speech in the Russian language in the context of a comparative analysis of the grammatical teachings of A.A. Shakhmatov and V.V. Vinogra-dov. The object is their scientific articles, in which they critically comprehend the current state of the doctrine of parts of speech.
The purpose of the article is to highlight the main similarities and differences in the approaches of these outstanding grammarians to parts of speech, given that for A.A. Shakhmatov the priority was their connection with the sentence, and for V.V. Vinogradov – with the grammatical doctrine of the word.
From these positions, the analysis of the scientific views of A.A. Shakhmatov in terms of their de-velopment turns out to be theoretically significant. We analyzed topical questions about the content and volume of grammar, about the criteria for highlighting and describing parts of speech, about the ratio of parts of speech and word types. Undoubtedly, these issues are presented more systematically, consistently and are less contradictory in the works of V.V. Vinogradov. But this was largely made possible thanks to A.A. Shakhmatov, who prepared the ground for a systematic description of parts of speech, and V.V. Vinogradov carried out a qualitative shift in studying them, taking into account the critical understand-ing of partial theory at different stages of the development of Russian grammar.
The author concludes that the grammatical arguments of A.A. Shakhmatov and V.V. Vinogradov about parts of speech are conceptually promising and testify to the theoretical and methodological sig-nificance of their views
