Abstract:
The paper explores the problem of metaphorical representation in political discourse. The communicative function of metaphor in discourse reveals conformity to the social principles of co-operation, in particular, to the Irony Principle postulated by G. Leech. The paper concentrates on the inquiry of conceptual spheres that become the source of metaphoric expansion in political discourse in recent years.
