Abstract: 
The article explores the following words: form – image – lad (Russian), which are important for the description of national Weltanschauung. Each of them takes its own part in the process of categori-zation of the world. The usage and semantics of these symbols are represented on the base of historical and modern facts. The functional distinctions depend on the genesis of these words, and the preferences in their usage correspond with the essential features of Russian mentality.
