Abstract:
The article seeks to prove the significance of a cognitive approach to the study of the English ar-ticles which allows the researcher to define their role in the language system as means of expressing a grammatical category of nouns. The cognitive analysis of the material is presented after a detailed criti-cal survey of the state of the art.
