Abstract:
The article deals with different approaches to toponymic word formation. Comparative analysis of Russian and English toponymic systems is carried out. Formative method as the most perspective al-lows to determine universal and specific toponymic models in both languages. Diachronic investigations prove the creative character of nomination process. So linguistic, historical, etymological factors are taken into account.
