Abstract:
The article considers the issue of a translator's metacommunication as a part of an overall pro-cess of translation activity. Translator's metacommunication comprises forewords, afterwords, foot-notes and commentaries forming a frame around the text of the novel, story, poem, etc. The text itself is a dialogue between the author and the reader, whereas translator's foreword, afterword, footnotes and commentaries serve as the basis for a dialogue between the translator and the reader. Translator's metacommunication helps the reader understand how the process of conversion from one picture of the world to another is going on. Metatext created by the translator forms an additional information field and adjusts the reader's perception of the text. The article also reviews the main types of translator's footnotes.
