Abstract
The results of cognitive analysis of lexical units expressing the modality of possibility and neces-sity in English obtained by Eve Sweetser and the description given by Anna Wierzbicka for the structure of the cross-cultural concept FREEDOM, which were compared with the conclusions of historical and etymological interpretation of this linguistic material, do not show any considerable differences in the detected logico-semantic models. Both given examples of semantic analysis in "different dimensions" evidence that integration of techniques from different approaches and methods has good prospects and significance for verification.
