Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the issue of the status of the initial pronoun it in forming impersonality category in the English language. Traditionally the initial impersonal it is considered a formal "dum-my" element of the sentence structure, an impersonality syntactic marker. In the present article it is ar-gued that the initial impersonal it is semantically meaningful and it plays a fundamental role in imper-sonality category formation in the English language.
