Abstract:
The article tackles the problem of perception and interpretation of caricature as an entity with integral structure. Descriptive analysis of one thousand three hundred caricatures from the American magazine «The New Yorker» (1925–2010) allows affirming that gestaltness of the text of caricature serves both the ground for holistic perception and understanding of full value. The integral sense of the text of caricature is created by the author's consistent communicative and cognitive idea, brought to life by the combination of both visual and verbal components into one whole unity.
