Abstract
In this paper the authors consider how the cognitive Theory of metaphor can be applied to the field of biblical research. The authors analyse the Gospel according to John and show how the metaphorical concept “LIFE IS JOURNEY” is developed in it. The analysis shows that the author of the Gospel lives by the same conceptual system as contemporary readers.

Keywords:  metaphor, concept (domain), cognitive theory of metaphor, Gospel
