Abstract

The study is focused on the concept of pride as accessed from its verbal objectifications in the Russian language. The primary aim of this paper is to show the heuristic potential of video corpus which consists of more than 120 half-hour recordings of Russian mother-child interactions for linguistic exploring the concept of this social emotion.
The applied methodology includes cognitive modeling method accompanied by more specific procedures of cognitive event analysis and empirical data quantitative analysis.
Having integrated classification of linguistic data from Russian National Corpus and findings of psychological researches we found out three variations of pride: factitive, possessing and existence prides. The corporal search by primordial lexemes pride, proud provided us with both a distribution of items relating to each type of pride and with the evidence of the insufficiency of feedback. Then we detected verbal “pride markers” in the video data and included them in our list of words for the next text corporal searching that modified the final data rates.
The results show that if the verbalizations of the categorical conceptual component are easily identified in lexical items analyzed separately from their communicative context, the verbal objectifications of the interpretative items are deeply socially contextualized and accessible to observing from mother-child interactions video corpus.

Keywords:  conceptualization, categorization, conceptual features, lexemes representing the concept, mother-child communication, video corpus
