AXIOLOGICAL CONSTANTS OF RUSSIAN MENTALITY (on the material of folklore texts)

Abstract:  The article is devoted to the analysis of the three axiological constants of Russian mentality – conciliarism, sophistical character and justice embodied in the Russian language and folklore texts. In the authors’ opinion, these constants express national way of perceiving and evaluating the world, generalize ethic imperatives accepted and shared by the representatives of the Russian ethnoculture. 
The constant of conciliarism expresses feeling of unity, community experienced by all the members of the society irrespective of their differences (of sex, age, social status, etc.). Conciliarism is also understood as striving for unity, state of mind, and as a process, action requiring human spiritual work. 
The constant of sophistical character is a complex of the three interrelated entities: Love, Beauty and Good. Their unity corresponds to the folk understanding of Wisdom. The value dominant of Beauty corresponds to the contemplative mindset of the native speakers of the Russian language and culture. 
The constant of justice presents the folk ideal as it means juxtaposition of what is real and of what should be. Lack of harmony between the real and the desired arouses in the Russian people the need of reforming the situation. 
The material of the research contains texts of oral folk prose registered in the Ural region in the end of the XX – beginning of the XXI cent. The analysis of motives and images of the folklore texts results in finding the peculiar importance of the viewed constants in artistic sense making, of the priority character of the fixed value guidelines for folk consciousness.
